August 26, 2007

I did it! I drove into the city, found a free street parking spot and perfectly parallel parked -- all by myself! See? That's my car, right there on W52nd St.!

That's one small step for a NY cabbie, one giant leap for a girl from the Midwest :)
Then I went to the Paley Center for Media (formerly Museum of Television & Radio). They constantly play different TV/Radio shows and specials all day long. They also have a library where you can pick out a couple specific episodes of a wide variety of TV shows and watch them by yourself.
We saw a screening of "Wallace and Gromit" and then went to the library for an episode of "You Can't Do That on Television" and "The Secret World of Alex Mack." Those two shows were a lot more appealing when I was actually in the target demographic. Overall, it was just kind of "eh."

I like taking pictures of signs welcoming me to places I go.

Times Square at night :)

Happy birthday, Lisa! Today is the 30-something anniversary of my cousin coming into this world. This is the last picture I took of Lisa, back in June. Here she is goofing off with her middle offspring Shelby. Aren't they precious? :)

This is my new necklace I bought with some of the money from the refund check. Do you like it? (Please ignore the sweaty, tired-looking lady wearing it -- not sure where she came from!)

August 21, 2007

A nice surprise came in the mail today -- a refund check from my old cable company. Yay!

Cops on horses: Not something you see all the time. Hopefully, you can see them in this picture.

August 19, 2007

Grace is in town! She and her sister came with me to a game night that turned out to be a bust. But it was nice to see her :)

August 18, 2007

I tried another new church. This one reminded me of my church back home -- even the look on the outside. I plan to go again.

August 17, 2007

I made this yummy fruit salad to eat off all week. There's apples, strawberries, watermelon, grapes, canteloupe and peaches.

August 16, 2007

I thought I had a lot of rings until I organized them for this picture. But now it doesn't look like I have that many.
I could tell you where I got each ring. The most recent additions are the 3 black plastic ones. They're from H&M and cost $1.90 :)

Is this the Hamburglar? I don't know. Usually laundry night means I get McDonald's for dinner. They have a lot of these old-school characters around.

August 14, 2007

My newest bracelet. I picked it up at FAO Schwarz for a mere $12. I was just excited that they had something representing the D!

We braved the heat and made our way out to Queens today. We wanted to find this particular lemon ice stand because it is used in the opening of "The King of Queens." And, yes, it was really yummy! (I had watermelon & strawberry).

August 12, 2007

This morning, we had brunch at the Rainbow Room in Rockefeller Center. This was our view from our table. This is the Upper East Side of Manhattan. We could also see other parts of Manhattan, as well as Queens. I'm glad I can now say I've been to the Rainbow Room, but I'm not in any dire need to return soon -- unless, of course, someone else is footing the bill :)

Today, we spent the morning at the Greenwich Village street fair. Jamie got this new pink poodle, which she helped stuff and dress herself. (Can you tell her favorite color is pink?)

August 10, 2007

My aunt Mary Jo and cousins Samantha (12) and Jamie (2) came to visit this weekend. Tonight we went to Little Italy for dinner. It has now become a tradition for us to take a picture in front of this "David" replica.

This is the tape my parents made and sent to me. It has footage of my new nephew and everyone from my family holding him in the hospital.
My mom's handwriting is on the envelope and my dad's is on the post-it. such a difference

August 8, 2007

Vanessa took me to a play at her uncle's church tonight. We were running late (because of our own indecisiveness), but I'm glad we made it :)

"I like ice cream a whole lot.
It tastes good when days are hot.
On a cone or in a dish,
This would be my only wish.
Vanilla, chocolate, rocky road,
Even with pie, a la mode."
OK, name that movie!

The peer recognition program at work is called "Above & Beyond." In our office, they printed up all the recognitions and posted them in the lunch room. Here are the two that I received :)

The world is at my feet ... OK, well at least the Jersey Shore is at my feet :)

August 4, 2007

Atlantic City, baby!
Maria (my boss) and I went to AC today. Good times. We played at the Taj Mahal. I liked it there, but next time I go, I'd like to try another casino just to experience more of what is around.
I found $5 on the ground -- but I gambled it away.

August 3, 2007

My landlord's family found a kitten behind their shed. They scooped him/her but aren't going to keep it. It's off to the shelter...

August 2, 2007

I've passed by this sign a few times. I think it's funny, but does "fork-lift" really need to by hyphenated?

August 1, 2007

These are the two books I'm currently reading. The one on the left is a book about grammar and AP style. The other is a novel about layoffs at a Chicago ad agency.

This is the card I sent to the happy new parents. No, we're not Jewish -- it was just the prettiest card :)

He's here!
Weighing in at 7 lbs. 12 oz. and measuring 21" long, I present to you my nephew, William Russell Rose.
Welcome to the world, Liam :)
