I work somewhere in there :)

June 27, 2007

And when I get off the train on a windy afternoon, I'm reminded of what's across the street. The smell isn't the greatest thing in the world, but you can't beat free parking!

Tonight, we didn't have power. It was 95 degrees outside. Good times

I see this every week day on my way to work . It's outside my Light Rail stop. I've never read the sign to know more about it, but I appreciate that it's something better to look at than trash!

Just driving in Newark, I passed by this huge, beautiful Catholic church. It wasn't in the greatest neighborhood & I'm not Catholic, so I didn't go in :)

New Jersey has Chipotle! YUM :)

June 22, 2007

Today, my boss let us out an hour early just because it was Friday & a beautiful day outside. I took the opportunity to travel into Manhattan to go see the building that was used as the exterior shot for Friends. It's at the corner of Bedford and Grove -- a very quaint, picturesque section of Greenwich Village.

June 21, 2007

At Penn Station (the one in NJ, not NY), I walked by these statues & looked like a tourist so I could stop to take a picture.

June 20, 2007

On my drive home, I saw this delivery car & it made me smile -- does it make you smile?

I like Chinese food ... yum!

June 19, 2007

First day at the new job. This is my view as I walk from the train to my building along the boardwalk -- not too shabby for Heather :)

June 18, 2007

I love Ralph ... but now he is tucked away in storage in my attic -- safely in a plastic tub.

Happy Father's Day! To celebrate, I took my dad to dinner at the ESPN Experience in Times Square and then to the Yankees/Mets game at Yankee Stadium in The Bronx. Our seats were the next to last row from the very top. Boy, was it an adventure getting from NJ to The Bronx -- but we did it without getting lost! We left the game in the middle of the 8th inning & it took us over 2 hours to get home. What a day...

June 16, 2007

My dad & I went grocery shopping today. Since I wasn't unpacked enough to bake and decorate a cake, I picked up this cake instead for Father's Day.

June 15, 2007

Alright, this isn't the best picture, but I was driving. I was just excited that we randomly picked this exit in Pennsylvania to stop & get gas. Now, I want to come back Feb. 2!

June 14, 2007

After my movers were 5 1/2 hours late, my dad & I were finally on the road. Here's my mom's favorite city, Ashtabula -- just ask her how to pronounce it ;)

June 13, 2007

For my last day at work in CL, Mary (left) took me & Eleanor out to lunch at the Westside Market Cafe. She also bought me a very yummy cheesecake for dessert! Delish :)

The fabulous girls at work took me out for dinner one of my last nights in Ohio. How sweet are they?

(Michelle, Stacey, Grace, Crystal, Brittany, Amanda, Amy, Margarete, Katie, Tammy, Kerry & me)

Bye, bye Michigan. It's been nice knowin' ya :)

June 10, 2007

Today, we had a celebration at my church for my Pastor and his wife. They were celebrating 35 years of marriage and 40 years of him being ordained. Here's a 'before and after' pictures of Marv and Rose :)

June 9, 2007

Went to the Nelly Furtado concert. We were in the 'standing room only' section. And since we weren't 16 year-olds acting like idiots, we didn't get wrist bands to go to the front. Oh well, we had fun just the same.

Can you feel the breeze? A box fan and this little one here are the only 2 things I have to cool down my entire apartment.

June 7, 2007

My company had an open house for our clients, followed by a dinner at a restaurant for our employees.
The executive committee even flew in from NY & NJ to attend. Here's one sporting a local T-shirt...Cavs lost that night. yay! :)

June 6, 2007

Amy & Heather. Can I send this IPD so our faces will appear in Times Square for approx. 10 seconds? :)

June 5, 2007

My fortune that I opened at the beginning of the year. I still have it (obviously).

June 4, 2007

Lots of boxes for Heather. Thanks for collecting them, Mary, Rich, Holly & Janie.

Lovely ladies: my aunt Mary Jo, aunt Karen, and my mom, Janie.

June 2, 2007

Today, my mom, sister Heidi and I threw my sister Holly a baby shower for her little boy due August 5. This is one of the cupcakes that Heidi and her friend Kara made, in lieu of a cake. Yum!

We also went to the Rock Hall. This was my favorite guitar: Crocodile Rock. Overall, the museum was, as Emily put it, "underwhelming."

May 31, 2007

My old roomie Emily came to visit me in Cleveland! We went to see the Tigers vs. Indians game. Just walking to the stadium, we got heckled & swore at. Good times.

Today would have been Uncle Kenny's 64th birthday.
We celebrated his life by laying him to rest & singing the U of M fight song and 'Happy Birthday' to him.

May 28, 2007

This board shows Uncle Ken's other passion in life: politics. He was always campaigning for some Democratic candidate and he even held positions in his local UAW.
In the center of the board is a hand-written letter from Jim Blanchard in 1999 congratulating Ken on retiring from Chrysler.
The pictures include U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow and Carl Levin, close friend Honorable Annette Berry, Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm, former Detroit Mayor Dennis Archer, Wonder Woman and WXYZ-TV's Robbie Timmons.

May 27, 2007

This board exemplifies all that Uncle Ken loved in life: U of M. He had season tickets to the football games, attended lots of road games (including a ton of bowl games) and other sporting events (basketball, hockey, etc.).
He even sent me to basketball camp conducted by the women's team at U-M the summer between 7th & 8th grade. Thanks to him, I got to play in Crisler arena.
He loved U of M so much that he listed in his will that he wanted the fight song & 'Maize & Blue' played at his funeral, AND to be buried in a U of M casket (which he was). That's a die-hard fan in every sense of the term.

May 26, 2007

This board is filled of pictures of Uncle Ken with extended family (lots of nieces & nephews). He loved holding little kids & having his picture taken.

May 25, 2007

For his 3 days of viewing at the funeral home, the girl cousins got together to make memory boards depicting lots of different aspects of Uncle Kenny's life (and boy did he live a full one!).

These are the two boards that I mostly helped with. (Click on the pictures to see them up close)
The "Kenny" one is pictures taken of Uncle Kenny by himself. The one of him in 2nd grade is so adorable!
The "Rocky" (his nickname) one is pictures of him with family. We incorporated artwork made for him while he was in the nursing home by his great nieces in Texas.

May 24, 2007

Uncle Kenny lost his battle with lung cancer today. He was diagnosed in January with stage 4 lung cancer and was only given 2 months to live. Since we had a feeding tube put it, he was able to last 4 months, but was in extreme pain and too weak to undergo any significant treatment. Of course I miss him but am glad that he's out of pain & in heaven with his parents and many other loved ones.
This picture was taken a little over 4 years ago at my college graduation from MSU.

My cousin Lisa & her daughter, Shelby. We went for a walk around the Medina square & surrounding blocks, waiting for Madison to be done with dance class. Very cute area. Lisa said it reminds her of Grandma Hicks' old neighborhood.
